The GBI ExoGen Power Joint Venture is led by Great Bear Industries Inc. a majority Indigenous owned company committed to stewardship, reconciliation and sustainable development. Through this partnership with ExoGen Power Systems Ltd. GBI ensures that Indigenous leadership and community participation are central to reclaiming Alberta’s oil sand tailings.

By thinking outside the box, we redefine industry standards by delivering a superior, chemical-free solution that leads the way in environmental responsibility and breaks trail to long-term prosperity for future generations.

Hazel Harrison is the CEO of Great Bear Industries. She is rooted in her Dene and Inuit heritage. Over the past 30 years, she has launched and managed nine businesses across industries from construction to digital health.

A Certified Business Advisor and graduate of Harvard Business School’s Technology Entrepreneurship program, she has coached business startups with leading organizations such as Wilfrid Laurier University, Women of Ontario Social Enterprise Network, Centre for Social Innovation, Alberta Women Entrepreneurs, and Invest Ottawa.

Hazel is also an Academic Member of Laval University’s Centre for Research and Co-creation in Innovation and Sustainable Indigenous Business. With the GBI ExoGen Power joint venture, she is advancing Indigenous leadership in land reclamation and clean energy.

Darrell Kosakewich, a graduate from NAIT as a Gas Technologist (Hydrocarbon Engineering Technology) is the founder of ExoGen Power Systems Ltd. and parent company KoSAW for Impact, recognized for pioneering circular, emissions-free technologies. An independent innovator with a track record of entrepreneurial R&D in Alberta’s energy sector. His work has earned recognition as a finalist in the 2023 Carbon Capture Startup Awards and has resulted in multiple provisional patents in clean energy and resource recovery.

Through the GBI ExoGen Power joint venture, he contributes the technical foundation, system design, and intellectual property to advance reclamation, water recovery and off-grid energy innovation, while maintaining a strong commitment to conservation and sustainability recognized by our Indigenous-lead partnership
